In How We Organize Ourselves,we are inquiring about systems in place to help cope with crises. Mrs Hunter came to grade 4 and taught us a lot of useful information on airline emergency evacuations. As a special thank you, we made a video of what she taught us. Thank you, Mrs Hunter!

We have been looking closely at what systems we should follow when there is a fire. For homework one night Alex made an iMovie about his fire evacuation system at his house. This inspired us all to make iMovies to teach you about the school fire avocation system. We hope you enjoy them.
Alex's movie
School Fire Evacuation starring Oliver, Brennan and Tay
Fire in the School starring Connie, Meghna and Shannon
Fire System starring Amy, Mia and Emellia
ISS on Fire starring Shunya, Alex and Carsen
Fire at ISS starring Sally, Emily and Lily
Fire Evacuation at School starring Chiemi, Qintha and Sayma

Last week the Grade 4 students had many crises thrown at them. We are ecstatic to report that they handled all of them brilliantly. They worked as a team to solve problems and supported each other, all while having a lot of fun, as you can see in the photos below!

To begin our Crisis unit on Monday morning the parents of  4th Grade gave their children these instructions.
I want you to pretend that there has been a major earthquake in Singapore and it is too dangerous to stay here.  You have to leave your house very quickly, you only have 5 minutes to pack a bag with all the things that you think you will need.  You have no idea how long or how far you will be travelling before you reach safety.  You will not have any adults to help you on your road to safety; you will only have your classmates. Your parents cannot make any suggestions or help you in any way with your packing.  They cannot answer any questions and remember you have no idea how long you will be travelling.  Due to this crisis there is no transportation and every building is unsafe to hide in.

As you will see from the video the children all packed differently.  We took them to the park across the road where we continued the crisis.  They had to make shelters, get into groups, plan how to guard their belongings and more.  This is a video of 4SB's adventure.

On March 11, 2012 ISS had a FUN FAIR!!!  At this fair we had our own Grade 4 stall where we sold T-Shirt Bags, Wallets, Jewelry, T-Shirt cloths, CD Art and Picture frames.  All these things were made out of rubbish that was clean and green.  It was really fun because there was a lot of things to do and a lot of things to buy.  Grade 4 enjoyed selling things and we felt like we were real shopkeepers.

See you next time Mollie and Daria

Today, at our Mandarin class, the Mandarin teacher was late for our lesson, so we decided to do a role-play in Mandarin using some of the words we learned in this year.

Thirst, we did a math sum in Mandarin and we separated the people who could answer the question and the people who couldn’t answer the question. Then, the people who couldn’t answer the question chose the people they waned in their group.

Then, we had a discussing time, which we could discuss what subject we’ll do, and who will do which role. Then, we practiced the play for a few times.

At last, every group showed their play to the other groups and Ms.Keenan filmed us on a camera.

We hope you enjoy our play!

Please bring us your old magazines, used hairbands and broken beads!!!

The lion dance for Chinese New Year came to ISS Singapore! It was amazing and terrific. The men that were doing the dance were really talented. They were jumping on each others' shoulders and doing great tricks. They threw oranges in the air so little kids could catch them and get good luck for Chinese New Year. The men who were playing the music were very talented, the music was AWESOME ! They played it loud and clear so the people from far & near could hear.
We both wish you a happy new year. Gong xi fa cai !

In Grade 4 we've recently been introduced to Prezi, a zooming presentation tool, so we can look at different ways to present information or tell stories.
Lauren, from G4Jk, used Prezi to present her acrostic poem in a more dynamic way than a plain old Word document!
Good work Lauren!
