On July 16, 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first person to walk on the moon. When he took his first step off the Eagle Lunar Module, he said, "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." He spent about 2.5 hours exploring the moon.
I was very honored and surprised to find there is an explorer from my very home town; Dundalk, Ireland!
Thomas Coulter (1793–1843) explored the areas of Mexico and California mostly finding new types of cactus plant!
There's even a tree named after him!
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Coulter+pine
I know, it's not really as exciting as landing on the moon but, hey, I'll take any sort of recognition for a fellow Dundalk person!
